Schools and Education

So I’ve been going over my blog and I notice that I haven’t really written about this particular topic for quite some time now. Obviously, you all know what I’ve going to say… “School sucks” and all that other fun stuff. And it’s sort of true… y’know. Just imagine how much I could get done instead of sitting on my ass in some useless chair. I could probably do some sorta important work like help renovate my damn house, but…. I have to sit through six hours of mindless dribble. Granted, school’s a good way to kill time, but it shouldn’t have to kill us while it’s at it. If school was a bit more fun, then I’m sure every single kid would atleast tolerate going to school. Begrudgingly, I must say that school is sometimes fun to be at, but most of the time…? Bleh….

I know education is needed to get on in life, but couldn’t we be a less boring about it? Maybe we should adopt Chairman Mao’s attempt at educating the Chinese population. All he did was stick giant boards with Chinese letters written on them in front of peasants while they work the fields. Now that’s what I call multitasking. Win-win solution: they keep their food production and learn at the same time. To be honest, I believe this system to have it’s flaws, and would be nigh-on impossible to achieve in this society. No offense, but the average American doesn’t strike me as the hardworking type that would attempt such a thing. They’d probably rather watch their ESPN and eat their frozen TV dinners. I know I’m being judgmental and narcissistic, but sometimes… stereotypes are right. Chinese society aside, another major problem of our educational system is the lack o motivation. No one would be enthusiastic about going school if it’s made as torturous and unappealing as it is now.

Another major problem with education? Parents. Parents that push their kids too hard. I truly hate it when parents push their kids past their limits and try to make them into something they’re not. I’m not saying a parent should completely disregard their child, but they shouldn’t flip the fuck out if their kid got a C or a B in a class. Maybe that’s the best they can do. Maybe you should just be happy they don’t have a F. If you force a child to get straight A’s and be a class valedictorian or something, that child will grow up hating school and “authority figures”. Studies have shown that fully half the kids who fail their classes are because they’ve given up on classes and school in general, whereas the other half is because they’re parents have given up on them. Maybe we should start up some of those educational reforms that’s been happening around.
